Essay about Maida Vale

Unit 2 Scavenger Hunt Game

Name: Seung Youb, Lee
Date: 20th November, 2007
Essay: Maida Vale

This essay focuses on experiences and resources that I investigated as part of the area for designing game and look back at how I worked as a member of the team and what I contributed and then I will discuss if I redo it, how can I do to organize the game and finally, I will evaluate our designing game for a feedback from someone who played in Maida Vale.

The most interesting of my team’s area (Maida Vale, W9) is a geographical location including the canal through Regent’s Park and a junction of three canals with a lot of houseboats known as Little Venice. Therefore, I researched these areas with my team members-Actually, we did not divide them to research the location and we therefore investigated and came up with the idea of making questions together.-and we found something called as Puppet theatre at Little Venice. The theatre is a boat and play puppet show. Moreover, there are many entertaining place on the boats from a gallery to restaurants. Hence, the place became one of the routes in the game.
Our team members created interesting ideas such as a making course of the way like “W9” and using mathematical fact for example, ((W9*1/W)*10)+the number of your team=bus number. These interesting elements can give entertaining for playing gamers.
As a member of the group, I researched Maida Vale’s historical background and the canal end then the other member concreted basic question giving entertaining and adding functional things like picture.

From one of the member of game player, I got some point of a feedback because the designed pathway needed almost 2 hours to finish. It could make player to become tired and losing interesting the last part of the course. Another important fact was a starting time due to closing time of museum or public place. Therefore, the game players did not make completion of the game and also should consider length of the day time. However, there were some good points giving clues that provided inference to the players. It also offers interesting and sticks with the game to the players. For this reason, if I redesigned the game again, I would approach to make shorter course and then create the question to communicate local people asking historical significant and important event of the area.
From my point of view, Scavenger Hunt Game provides every member to collaborate each other and make more familiar than before. Therefore, it was a good experience of learning the place and working together.

In conclusion, although there were disadvantages such as ignored closing time of public place and length of the course, the advantages of approaching new learn skill and cooperating with members can outweigh the problems. Furthermore, the most important thing is that I can understand the location and development. I can therefore find new value of the area like real scavenger hunt.
